On 28 March (17 according to the old style) 1776, Catherine II granted the prosecutor, Prince Pyotr Urusov, the "privilege" of "maintaining" theatre performances of all kinds, including masquerades, balls and other forms of entertainment, for a period of ten years. And it is from this date that Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre traces its history.

The Bolshoi building, which for many years now has been regarded as one of Moscow’s main sights, was opened on 20 October 1856, on Tsar Alexander II’s coronation day.

On 29 October 2002 the Bolshoi was given a New Stage and it was here it presented its performances during the years the Historic Stage was undergoing massive reconstruction and refurbishment.

The reconstruction project lasted from l July 2005 to 28 October 2011. As a result of this reconstruction, many lost features of the historic building were reinstated and, at the same time, it has joined the ranks of most technically equipped theatre buildings in the world.

The Bolshoi Theatre is a symbol of Russia for all time. It was awarded this honor due to the major contribution it made to the history of the Russian performing arts. This history is on-going and today Bolshoi Theatre artists continue to contribute to it many bright pages.

28 марта (17-го по ст. стилю) 1776 г. Екатерина II подписала прокурору князю Петру Урусову «привилегию» на содержание спектаклей, маскарадов, балов и прочих увеселений сроком на десять лет. Эта дата считается днем основания московского Большого театра.

То здание Большого, что уже в течение многих лет воспринимается всеми как одна из главных достопримечательностей Москвы, открылось 20 августа 1856 г. в дни коронации Александра II.

29 октября 2002 г. труппа театра получила Новую сцену, на которой и разворачивалась ее деятельность в годы масштабной реконструкции исторического здания.

Эта реконструкция продлилась с 1 июля 2005-го по 28 октября 2011 г. Она возродила многие утраченные черты исторического облика знаменитого здания и вместе с тем поставила его в ряд самых технически оснащенных театральных зданий мира. Большой театр — устойчивый символ России на все времена. Эту почетную роль он получил благодаря тому большому вкладу, который внес в историю русского искусства. История продолжается — и многие яркие страницы в ней по-прежнему пишут артисты Большого театра.

Юбилею замечательной певицы, солистки оперной труппы (1965 – 2002), народной артистки СССР Тамары Синявской Большой театр посвящает представление оперы «Борис Годунов». 

Звезда оперной сцены, любимица миллионов поклонников, на главной сцене страны Тамара Ильинична блистала почти сорок лет, примерив на себя практически все главные партии репертуара меццо-сопрано: Кармен, Азучена, Марина Мнишек, Ульрика, Любаша, Марфа… Карьера Тамары Синявской складывалась на редкость удачно и стремительно. На оперной сцене Синявская исполнила свыше сорока партий. Её необыкновенный по красоте голос, «бархатный», звучный и объёмный, пленял с первых нот,  восхищали артистизм и исключительное природное обаяние.
