In 22 Stationen zeichnet Strauss eine dramatische Bergwanderung nach, mit Naturerscheinungen wie Sonnenauf- und -untergang, Nebel und Wasserfall, Gewitter und Sturm, mit Glücksgefühlen am Gipfel und voll dankbarer Erleichterung bei der Ankunft im Tal. Ist alles nur ein tönendes Abbild der Natur? Oder verbirgt sich mehr dahinter? Unter der (Berg-)Führung des jungen finnischen Dirigenten Klaus Mäkelä bewältigen die Münchner Philharmoniker diese musikalische Bergtour – mit dabei ist natürlich auch MALTE ARKONA.

The Munich Philharmonic’s fourth Youth Concert will take place under the baton of Klaus Mäkelä. The narrator is Malte Arkona.

Richard Strauss, an enthusiastic mountaineer, scored An Alpine Symphony for a massive orchestra that includes a wind machine, thunder sheet and cowbells. In 22 stations, Strauss describes a dramatic mountain hike, taking in nature’s spectacles such as sunrise and sunset, fog, a waterfall, stormy weather and a thunderstorm as well as elation at having reached the summit and relief after a successful descent.

 

Is all that just an auditory depiction of nature, or is there more to it? With the young Finnish conductor Klaus Mäkelä as their “mountain guide”, the Munich Philharmonic embark on a resounding mountain expedition, narrated by Malte Arkona.
