The starting point of the opera “Woman as Frozen Champagne” is a monologue play dramatized by Aino Piirola based on the diaries of Aino Kallas.


Aino Kallas' last residence was the Säde Hoito- ja Toipilaskoti in Eira, where she moved in the autumn of 1954. The opera begins and ends there. However, the events of the opera follow the author's diary entries from 1899 onwards until the paths of Aino Kallas and Eino Leino parted. 

Recurring topics in the diaries are death, “we have been condemned to it since we were born,” and love “I miss perfect, great love.” The fact that it was most important for Aino Kallas to grow into a significant artist conveys intact from the fragmentary entries in the diaries. The pursuit of this goal is so absolute that even heavy contradictions are not avoided. 

Aino Kallas' feelings are strong and she defiantly unleashes them. "If I could have bought a harmonious marriage, I wouldn't have done it at the cost of my spiritual development." On the other hand, he clearly senses the dangers of his path: "I hear the cries of my beloved behind me, I see a forest fire in front of me, and I fly towards it like a fly into a flame."
