«Abbracciatevi, siate avvinti, uniti»: lo slancio utopico dell’esortazione di Schiller, resa immortale da Beethoven nella sua ultima sinfonia, la Nona, apre il festival. Viaggio dall’oscurità alla luce, in tempi scossi da numerose guerre si ripropone più attuale che mai l’interrogativo di Theodor Adorno se, dopo Auschwitz, sia ancora possibile un dialogo sincero con la composizione beethoveniana che, come poche altre, incarna ideali di umanità e fratellanza.

“All men will become brothers…” So claims Friedrich Schiller in his poem Ode to Joy, the utopian exhortation made immortal by its association with Beethoven’s ninth and final symphony, which opens this year’s edition of MITO SettembreMusica. It’s a journey from darkness to light, in war-torn times. Indeed, Theodor Adorno’s post-Auschwitz interrogative seems more apropos than ever – is any sincere dialogue still possible with the Beethoven composition that most incarnates ideals of humanity and brotherhood?
