The collective emotion of the Christmas carol

Remontado por los especialistas tanto a la tradición castellana de la Edad Media como, en paralelo, a la del mundo arábigo-español, el villancico flamenco es una de las formas musicales populares -especialmente, el derivado de las bulerías- más bellas y participativas, pues preside y alienta las tradicionales zambombas y otras reuniones familiares que celebran el nacimiento de Jesús de la cultura andaluza, donde el villancico engrosó la estética flamenca aportándole gran altura literaria desde que los poetas cultos, a partir del siglo XVIII, empezaron a escribir villancicos en un lenguaje accesible para el pueblo.

Hoy, y más aún en la voz sensible de Manuel Lombo, es una forma musical maravillosa que derrocha una gran emoción colectiva. El sevillano Manuel Lombo, que ha dedicado al género discos como Cante, incienso y mirra, lleva desde 2010 girando espectáculos centrados en el villancico, tanto tradicionales como compuestos por él mismo, por iglesias, catedrales y teatros con un enorme éxito.
