In Mozarts Oper ist Belmonte auf der Suche nach seiner Braut Konstanze, von der er durch äußere Umstände getrennt wurde. Wird er sie im Serail wiederfinden? Und in welcher Verfassung? Was ist geschehen seit ihrer Trennung? Diese Fragen beschäftigen Belmonte, bevor er im Serail eine ihm fremde Welt betritt. Auch Konstanze muss sich damit auseinandersetzen, was sie mit Belmonte verbindet, und was ein weiteres Leben ohne ihn bedeuten würde. So werden vor allem das Wiedersehen im Serail und die geplante Flucht eine wahrhaftige Herausforderung, bei der alles auf den Prüfstand kommt.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart begleitet in der 1782 entstandenen Oper seine beiden Protagonist*innen mit großer Liebe und einer reichen musikalischen Sprache durch Hoffnung, Freude, Traurigkeit und „Martern aller Arten“, bis sie den Serail gemeinsam hinter sich lassen können.

Die Regisseurin Kai Anne Schuhmacher stellte an der Oper Köln unter anderem mit Benjamin Brittens „The Rape of Lucretia“ ihre besondere Fähigkeit unter Beweis, psychologische Situationen zu
untersuchen und mit subtiler Methodik in einprägsame szenische Konstellationen zu über­setzen. Rainer Mühlbach, der nicht nur als Musikalischer Leiter der Sparte Kinderoper an der Oper Köln und des Opernstudios der Oper Köln, sondern auch als ausgewiesener Kenner des Mozartrepertoires Meriten gesammelt hat, dirigiert das Gürzenich-Orchester Köln.

In Mozart's opera, Belmonte is looking for his bride Konstanze, from whom he has been separated due to external circumstances. Will he find her in the seraglio? And in what condition? What has happened since their separation? Belmonte is concerned with these questions before he enters a world that is alien to him in the Seraglio. Also Konstanze has to deal with what connects her with Belmonte and what another life without him would mean. Above all, the reunion in the Seraglio and the planned escape become a real challenge that puts everything to the test.

In the opera written in 1782, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart accompanies his two protagonists with great love and a rich musical language through hope, joy, sadness and "tortures of all kinds" until they can leave the Seraglio together.

The director Kai Anne Schuhmacher demonstrated her special ability to deal with psychological situations at the Cologne Opera with, among other things, Benjamin Britten's "The Rape of Lucretia".
investigate and translate them into memorable scenic constellations using subtle methods. Rainer Mühlbach, who not only gained merits as musical director of the children's opera section at the Cologne Opera and the Cologne Opera Studio, but also as a proven expert on the Mozart repertoire, conducts the Cologne Gürzenich Orchestra.
