This year, ItalfestMTL is proud to present the opera Don Pasqualeby Gaetano Donizetti an opera in three acts recounting the misadventures of Don Pasquale, a miserly, elderly bachelor who prevents his nephew from marrying the woman he’s in love with. With the help of Dr. Malatesta, the young lovers concoct a farce that allows them to foil Pasquale’s plans and finally be together.

First presented in January 1843, this opera reflects the traditions of opera buffa, with basic characters derived from the Commedia dell’arte.
