Idomeneo Mozart

In 1781, Mozart's opera Idomeneo premiered in Munich, and 227 years later Roland Schimmelpfennig's play Idomeneus was premiered in the same city. The Comrades and Rebaroque set of Idomene0s combines a contemporary play and a historical opera about the same myth.

King Idomeneo is on his way home from the war in Troy. He promises the weather gods to sacrifice the first living creature he meets, as long as he reaches his home in Crete alive. The first person he meets on the beach is Idamante, his son. The king is faced with an impossible choice: pay the price or arouse the wrath of the gods. Stand by your word or let it go.

The set develops existential issues and emotions from Idomeneus' impossible dilemma. Opera singers, actors and musicians weave together a choral work of body, text and music. A sea of ​​sweaty actors who offer to dance with philosophy and religion in an endless pursuit of the impossible; what is right and what is wrong.

The songs are sung in Italian and the actors' lyrics are performed in Swedish.
