The arrival of spring has been celebrated since ancient times, and the pagan rituals of ancient times associated with it have also inspired artists. The most famous one is Igor Stravinsky and his  Rite of Spring , composed for Ďagilev's Russian Ballet. The Paris premiere in 1913 caused a scandal thanks to the avant-garde music and bold stage performance, but in the following years this captivating work became part of the repertoire not only of ballet companies, but also of concert stages.

The wheel of fortune turns and on it is written "I will reign, I reign, I have reigned, I have lost my empire" - this is the central idea and structure of one of the most famous cantatas of the 20th century,  Carmina Burana  , by the German composer Carl Orff. It is part of the so-called  Trionf together with Catulli Carmina  and  Trionfo di Afrodita. The basis of the cantata was a set of medieval poems and songs - satirical, love, religious, drinking. From the two hundred original texts in Latin, Old French, Italian or German, found in the Beurum monastery, Carel Orff selected a part and divided them into six thematic units. Carmina Burana was performed for the first time with great success in 1937 at the Frankfurt Opera and after the 2nd St. war, it became a literal cult composition that sounded not only from concert stages, but also on the movie screen. Just as in Stravinsky's music, rhythm is the basic musical element for Orff, and through an enormous musical apparatus - an orchestra with an extended percussion section, a choir and a children's choir - he achieved truly impressive moments in the work, where the wheel of fortune turns, joy, love , sadness, hope. Everything opens and ends with a number belonging to Luck, the ruler of the world.

Příchod jara se slaví od pradávna a pohanské rituály dávných dob s ním spojené se staly inspirací i umělcům. Tím nejslavnějším je Igor Stravinskij a jeho Svěcení jara, zkomponované pro Ďagilevův Ruský balet. Pařížská premiéra 1913 vyvolala skandál díky avantgardní hudbě i odvážnému scénickému ztvárnění, v dalších letech se však toto strhující dílo stalo součástí repertoáru nejen baletních souborů, ale koncertních pódií.

Kolo štěstí se otáčí a na něm je psáno „Budu panovat, panuji, panoval jsem, ztratil jsem říši“ – to je ústřední myšlenkou i strukturou jedné z nejznámějších kantát 20. století Carmina Burana německého skladatele Carla Orffa.  Je součástí tzv. Trionf spolu s Catulli Carmina a Trionfo di Afrodita. Základem kantáty se stal soubor středověkých básní a písní – satirických, milostných, náboženských, pijáckých. Z dvou set původních textů v latině, starofrancouzštině, italštině či němčině, nalezených v klášteře Beurum Carel Orff vybral část a rozdělil je do šesti tematických celků. Carmina Burana byla poprvé s velkým úspěchem uvedena v roce 1937 ve frankfurtské opeře a po 2. sv. válce se z ní stala doslova kultovní skladba, která zněla nejen z koncertních pódií, ale i na filmovém plátně. Stejně jako v hudbě Stravinského i pro Orffa je základním hudebním elementem rytmus a skrze enormní hudební aparát – orchestr s rozšířenou bicí sekcí, sbor i dětský sbor – dosáhl skutečně působivých momentů v díle, kde se střídá, tak jak se otáčí kolo štěstí radost, láska, smutek, naděje. Vše otvírá a končí číslo patřící Štěstěně, vládkyni světa.
