Wolfgang Rihm, one of the greatest living composers, grew up at the school of the musical avant-gardes, was a young twenty-five year old when he presented for the first time (March 8, 1979 Hamburg, Staatsoper) his Jakob Lenz, an opera that was preparing to be inscribed among the masterpieces of Twentieth century.

At its premiere it was a great success and entered by name among the repertoire classics of the twentieth century.

Written between 1977 and 1978, the work stimulated the interest of the international musical world as it represented an interesting and significant model of the new way of conceiving musical theater.

Chamber work in twelve paintings with libretto taken from the short story by Georg Büchner who reconstructed the last years of the troubled earthly life of Jakob Lenz, writer among the great precursors of romanticism in the classical age, born in Latvia in 1751 and died in Moscow on May 23 1792, killed by his schizophrenia.

His entire life was characterized by severe mental health problems that progressively worsened over the years until he drowned in his delirium.

In Torre del Lago the performance will be staged in the Enrico Caruso Auditorium on 20 July 2022 in a staging created in collaboration with the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala and under the direction of Marco Angius for the r egy of Cesare Scarton.

Era un giovane venticinquenne Wolfgang Rihm uno dei più grandi compositori viventi, cresciuto alla scuola delle avanguardie musicali, quando  presentò per la prima volta (8 marzo 1979 Amburgo, Staatsoper) la sua Jakob Lenz , opera che si preparava ad essere iscritta tra i capolavori del Novecento.

Alla sua prima riscosse grande successo ed entrò a peino titolo tra i classici di repertorio del XX secolo.

Scritta tra il 1977 e il 1978, l’opera stimolò l’interesse del mondo musicale internazionale in quanto rappresentava un modello interessante e significativo del  nuovo modo di concepire il teatro musicale.

Opera da camera in dodici quadri con libretto tratto dalla novella di Georg Büchner che ricostruì gli ultimi anni della travagliata vicenda terrena di Jakob Lenz, scrittore tra i grandi precursori del romanticismo in età classica, nato in Lettonia nel 1751 e morto a Mosca il 23 maggio 1792, ucciso dalla sua schizofrenia.

La sua intera esistenza fu caratterizzata da gravi problemi di salute mentale che peggiorarono progressivamente negli anni fino a farlo annegare nel suo delirio.

A Torre del Lago la rappresentazione sarà in scena nell’Auditorium Enrico Caruso  il 20 luglio 2022 in un allestimento realizzato in collaborazione con l’Accademia del Teatro alla Scala e sotto la direzione di Marco Angius per la regia di Cesare Scarton.
