La serva padrona is a famous "Intermezzo Buffo" by Giovan Battista Pergolesi. Composed for the birthday of Elisabetta Cristina of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel with a libretto by Gennaro Antonio Federico, it was first performed at the Teatro San Bartolomeo in Naples on August 28, 1733, as an intermezzo to the serious opera Il prigionier superbo by Pergolesi, which was destined to never reach the fame of "La Serva Padrona". The beginnings of the new genre of "Opera Buffa" are attributed to its first premiere. Giovanni Paisiello took the same libretto for the comic opera with the same title. In 1734 it had its first premiere at the Académie Royale de Musique in Paris and at the Palace of Versailles, in 1746 at the Théâtre-Italien in Paris and in 1750 at Her Majesty's Theatre, London. The great success of the 1752 re-establishment of the Académie Royale de Musique ignited a dispute, known as "La Querelle des bouffons", between supporters of traditional French opera, embodied in the style of Jean-Baptiste Lully and JeanPhilippe Rameau, and supporters of the new Italian opera "Opera Buffa" including several encyclopedists, in particular Jean Jacques Rousseau, and he also a composer. The dispute divided the French musical community and the royal court (with the queen on the side of the "Italians") for two years and led to a rapid evolution of the transalpine country's musical taste towards less schematic and more modern models.

La serva padrona është një “Intermezzo Buffo” e famshme e Giovan Battista Pergolesi-t. Kompozuar për ditëlindjen e Elisabetta Cristina-s të Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel me libret të Gennaro Antonio Federico-s, u interpretua për herë të parë në Teatrin San Bartolomeo në Napoli më 28 gusht 1733, si një intermezzo e operës serioze “Il prigionier superbo” të Pergolesi-t, e cila ishte e destinuar të mos arrinte asnjëherë famën e “La Serva Padrona”. Premierës së saj të parë i atribuohen dhe fillimet e zhanrit të ri të “Opera Buffa”. Të njëjtin libret e rimori dhe Giovanni Paisiello për operën komike me të njëjtin titull.
