Aluno de Olivier Messiaen no Conservatório de Paris, George Benjamin cedo começou a cumprir a ambição de um futuro auspicioso como compositor. Aos 20 anos integrara já a programação dos exclusivos e prestigiados BBC Proms, através da apresentação de Ringed by the Flat Horizon; pouco depois, First Light seria dirigida por Simon Rattle, à frente da London Sinfonietta. Em paralelo, Benjamin foi-se afirmando também como maestro, tendo estreado peças de Rihm ou Ligeti. À frente da Orquestra Gulbenkian, lidera um programa eclético que inclui também importantes obras de Ravel e Janáček.

A student of Olivier Messiaen at the Paris Conservatory, George Benjamin soon began to fulfill the ambition of an auspicious future as a composer. At the age of 20 he had already integrated the programming of the exclusive and prestigious BBC Proms , through the presentation of Ringed by the Flat Horizon ; shortly after, First Light would be directed by Simon Rattle, ahead of the London Sinfonietta. At the same time, Benjamin also established himself as a conductor, having premiered pieces by Rihm or Ligeti. At the head of the Gulbenkian Orchestra, he leads an eclectic program that also includes important works by Ravel and Janáček.
