Donizetti gave out operas literally in dozens. According to the last count, there were seventy of them in the biography of the Italian composer, and "Love Potion" was the fortieth in a row. The composer was only thirty-four years old when he wrote it. One of Donizetti's letters gives an idea of ​​how quickly he worked. Addressing his librettist, he wrote: “I have to write an opera in two weeks. I give you a week for your work. But keep in mind: we have a German diva, a tenor who stutters, a goat-voiced buffo, and a lousy French bass. With all this, you can glorify yourself. " Indeed, both became famous - both the composer and the librettist. And the tenor part was really written for a hero who stutters!
Poor Nemorino is too timid and simple-minded to hope for success with the beautiful Adina, who broke his heart. His last hope is a magic elixir, which he bought from Dr. Dulcamara at a reasonable price. The funny thing is that after drinking a bottle of this remedy (actually - ordinary wine), Nemorino immediately felt a surge of confidence and a clearly growing interest in his person on the part of the beautiful half of humanity. However, neither the magic elixir, nor the large inheritance that unexpectedly fell on Nemorino's head, did not help him in his relationship with Adina. He received her love only in return for his love and devotion.
