In the first of our series in partnership with the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists scheme, we welcome the Leonkoro Quartet, hot off the heels of winning the Wigmore Hall’s International String Quartet Competition. Joining forces with Elisabeth Brauß, praised for the ‘sophistication of her thoughtful interpretations’ (Gramophone), they present Schumann’s exuberant quintet. In counterpoint are the dramatic yearning of Webern’s early Slow Movement and playful dance forms from Erwin Schulhoff, a composer whose career was tragically cut short by the Second World War.
