Les Arts Florissants placés sous la direction de Paul Agnew ont enchanté Ambronay avec leurs cycles a cappella consacrés à Gesualdo, Monteverdi et tout récemment Schütz. Comme un retour aux sources, Paul Agnew nous plonge au coeur de l’Angleterre élisabéthaine. Le temps d’un concert, il reconstitue, autour de la magnifique Messe à 5 voix de William Byrd (1539/40-1623), un office « secret » pour la fête de l’Assomption. Nul doute que le ténor et chef anglais, entouré de ses habituels complices, saura rendre justice au faste intime de cette musique anglaise qu’il affectionne tant.

Les Arts Florissants under the direction of Paul Agnew have enchanted Ambronay with their a cappella cycles devoted to Gesualdo, Monteverdi and most recently Schütz. Like a return to basics, Paul Agnew plunges us into the heart of Elizabethan England. During a concert, he reconstitutes, around the magnificent Mass for 5 voices by William Byrd (1539/40-1623), a “secret” service for the feast of the Assumption. There is no doubt that the tenor and English conductor, surrounded by his usual accomplices, will be able to do justice to the intimate splendor of this English music that he loves so much.
