Kann man eigentlich auch zu viel Talent haben? Bei Philippe Jaroussky ist man fast versucht, diese Frage mit Ja zu beantworten: Immerhin scheint es kaum eine musikalische Disziplin zu geben, die er nicht beherrscht. Der Franzose studierte Klavier und Geige, Harmonielehre und Komposition. Ganz nebenbei entdeckte er dann sein Gesangstalent und macht seither als Countertenor Weltkarriere. Zudem gründete er noch sein eigenes Ensemble, plant bereits seine nächste Laufbahn als Dirigent und unterrichtet begabte Nachwuchsmusiker:innen in seiner eigenen Akademie. Dass er neben alldem auch noch Zeit hat, in Archiven vergessene Meisterwerke auszugraben, vermag da schon fast nicht mehr zu überraschen.

Mit einem Programm solcher Wiederentdeckungen, unter anderem von Niccolò Jommelli oder Johann Christian Bach, gastiert Jaroussky nun in der Elbphilharmonie. Zu viel Talent? Vielleicht – aber spätestens, wenn Jaroussky mit silbrig schimmernder Stimme die erste Arie anstimmt, wird sich darüber wohl niemand mehr beklagen.

Is it really possible to have too much talent? With Philippe Jaroussky, one is almost tempted to answer this question with yes: after all, there seems to be hardly a musical discipline that he has not mastered. The Frenchman studied piano and violin, harmony and composition. Along the way, he discovered his singing talent and has been making a world career as a countertenor ever since. He also founded his own ensemble, is already planning his next career as a conductor and teaches talented young musicians in his own academy. The fact that he also has time to dig up forgotten masterpieces in archives is hardly surprising.

Jaroussky is now making a guest appearance at the Elbphilharmonie with a program of such rediscoveries, including works by Niccolò Jommelli and Johann Christian Bach. Too much talent? Perhaps – but at the latest when Jaroussky strikes up the first aria with a silvery, shimmering voice, no one will complain about it.
