Was mit vier sanften Paukenschlägen beginnt, endet in einem pianissimo, das allerdings gar nichts Sanftes mehr hat. Beethovens großartiges Violinkonzert mit der Star-Solistin Hilary Hahn und der Pauke als stolze Begleiterin der Violine zu Beginn – dann Schostakowitschs 8. Sinfonie, ein Werk von mächtigem Ernst. Im Rahmen der Gesamteinspielung aller Schostakowitsch-Sinfonien sind das hr-Sinfonieorchester und sein Chefdirigent Alain Altinoglu bei der Nummer acht angekommen. Bei diesem Komponisten, so Altinoglu, müsse man sich trauen, an die Grenzen der instrumentalen Möglichkeiten zu gehen. Grenzerfahrungen jeder Art hat Hilary Hahn auch zu bieten, wobei ihr Ton immer makellos bleibt – nicht umsonst zählt die US-Amerikanerin mit Wurzeln in der Pfalz zur violinistischen Weltelite. Es war im Jahr 1995, als die 15-Jährige ihr Deutschland-Debüt gab, mit dem Beethoven-Violinkonzert, das sie bereits damals traumwandlerisch sicher beherrschte. In diesem Programm im Rahmen des »Fokus Hilary Hahn« der Alten Oper Frankfurt wird sie genau 30 Jahre später wieder mit Beethoven zu Gast sein, und mit der ihr eigenen, so ganz besonderen Souveränität und klanglichen Wärme.

What begins with four gentle timpani strokes ends in a pianissimo, which, however, has nothing gentle about it at all. Beethoven's magnificent Violin Concerto with star soloist Hilary Hahn and the timpani as the violin's proud companion at the beginning – then Shostakovich's Symphony No. 8, a work of powerful seriousness. As part of the complete recording of all of Shostakovich's symphonies, the Frankfurt Symphony and its Music Director Alain Altinoglu have now reached number eight. With this composer, says Altinoglu, you have to dare to go to the limits of the instrumental possibilities. Hilary Hahn also has all kinds of borderline experiences to offer, whereby her tone always remains flawless – it is not for nothing that the US-American with roots in the Palatinate is one of the world's violinist elite. It was in 1995 that the 15-year-old made her German debut with the Beethoven Violin Concerto, which she was already able to play with a dreamlike confidence. In this program as part of the »Focus Hilary Hahn« at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, she will be performing Beethoven again exactly 30 years later, and with her own very special aplomb and tonal warmth.
