​Maestro Philippe Auguin, the new music director of the Opera Nice Cote D’Azur, leads his company of musicians to dramatic heights in Simon Boccanegra, a grand-scale study of power and treachery that finds its emotional centre in the tender, unbreakable bond between a father and his daughter. Giuseppe Verdi's poignant score brings his characters to life in a series of striking encounters spanning two generations. Set against the class-driven battle for control of 14th-century Genoa, the opera sympathetically portrays the embattled Doge of the city as the consequences of his past – an estranged daughter, her competing suitors and a life-long enemy – eventually lead to his own death. ​​
