Yang Hongnian is a renowned Chinese conductor and educator. As Vice Chairman of International Children's Chorus and Performing Arts Association, Director of Chinese Musicians Association and Professor of Conducting Department of the Central Conservatory of Music, Yang Hongnian features the passionate and delicate nuanced conducting style and a wide range of expressive repertoires. His unique performing arts and skills and attainments in the field of choral training are unanimously admired by domestic and foreign experts. Yang Hongnian is highly praised as “a master indeed revealing the mystery of chorus art”.
Professor Yang Hongnian's artistic achievements help him win the honorable title of 'Advanced Worker in National Cultural Sector'. He is elected as Vice Chairman of International Children's Chorus and Performing Arts Association for the consecutive three sessions. The former U.S. President Ronald Reagan executed the top-class appreciation certificate for youth chorus under his guidance. Professor Yang Hongnian was awarded with Honorary Citizen Medal of Newark. Osaka Municipal Government and Hyogo Prefecture Government successively award him with Golden Key in recognition of his contributions.

Professor Yang Hongnian is Permanent Conductor and Artistic Director of Children & Women's Chorus Affiliated to China National Symphony Orchestra, Conductor of the Central Conservatory of Music Youth Chorus, Guest Conductor of China National Opera House Chorus, Artistic Director of Kunming Symphony Orchestra, Guest Conductor of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Guest Conductor of Osaka Youth Symphony Orchestra. He is often invited to conduct symphony concerts, chamber music concerts and choral concerts, who is an influencing choral conductor at home and abroad. At invitation, he often leads Children & Women's Chorus  Affiliated to China National Symphony Orchestra to visit abroad and launch tour performances in the US, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Austria, Australia, Italy, Sweden, Russia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and other countries and regions. A great sensation is made wherever they visit. In August 1996, directed by him, Children & Women’s Chorus Affiliated to China National Symphony Orchestra won four awards in one fell swoop in the 44th Guido d'Arezzo International Polyphonic Choral Competition in Italy, which set a new record in the competition history for decades. In 1997, Yang Hong served as Chief Conductor of the 5th International Children's Chorus Festival Chorus. In May 1999, he led Children & Women's Chorus Affiliated to China National Symphony Orchestra to take part in special performance of International Art Festival Commemorating the 200th Anniversary of Pushkin's Birth in Moscow, and won the only Special Prize. In July 1999, he led Chorus Affiliated to Xinjiang Normal University to participate in the 38th C. A. Seghizzi International Chorus Competition in Italy, and won three first prizes in group of mixed voices, group of female voice and group of male voice. Therefore, Yang Hongnian becomes such a Chinese conductor winning the most awards in international choral competitions.

In February 2003, under the baton of Professor Yang Hongnian, the chorus was invited by the US Choral Conductors Association to jointly perform in three concerts in New York Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Riverside Cathedral for 2003 Annual Meeting of the US Choral Conductors Association. Under the conducting of Professor Yang Hongnian, the chorus presented superb performance so that 9,000 renowned conductors in the US and around the world stood for ovation many times. The performances met with great success.


Yang Li
Yang Li is Associate Professor of Conducting Department of the Central Conservatory of Music and Permanent Conductor of Children & Women's Chorus Affiliated to China National Symphony Orchestra. Born in musical family, he studies music since childhood. In 1982, he was admitted to Theory Subject of the Middle School Affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music. In 1985, he was admitted to Conducting Department of the Central Conservatory of Music, who was under the tutelage of Professor Xu Xin. In the university, he was instructed by Professor Huang Feili, Professor Yan Liangkun and Professor Yang Hongnian. In 1990, he graduated with Bachelor's Degree. During 2003-2006, he served as Music Director and Chief Conductor of Tianjin Symphony Orchestra. 
In July 1992, he began to study in Stuttgart Conservatory of Music (Germany) under the tutelage of famous Professor T. Ungar. Graduating in 1997, he received Artist Diploma of Stuttgart Conservatory of Music. During study period in Germany, he became the first Chinese winner of Karajan Scholarship.

Yang Li cooperates with many orchestras at home and abroad to perform a lot of symphonic music, opera, chamber music and choral works. These orchestras include: Baden-Baden Municipal Symphony Orchestra (Germany), Reutlingen Philharmonic Orchestra, Southwest German Chamber Orchestra, Gyoer City Philharmonic Orchestra (Hungary), China Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, China National Symphony Orchestra, the Central Opera and Dance Theatre, China Opera and Dance Theatre, Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra (Taiwan) and Hong Kong Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra.

Over the years, Yang Li stages wonderful performances in Germany, Hungary, Austria, the US, Russia, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Macau, Hong Kong and other countries and regions several times, which are highly praised. He is invited to perform in Stuttgart International Bach Music Festival, Macao International Music Festival and International Art Festival Commemorating the 200th Anniversary of Pushkin’s Birth in Moscow, as well as 2002’ and 2006 Chinese Modern Works Music Festivals.

In February 1998, he conducted newly-created large-scale opera General Sheleng, and won Wenhua Special Award conferred by the Ministry of Culture and Five Ones Project Special Award conferred by the Publicity Department under the Central Committee of the CPC.

In February 2003, he led Children & Women's Chorus Affiliated to China National Symphony Orchestra to visit the US, and jointly performed with American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and other famous concert halls for 13,000 conducting professionals and musical artists, which was highly praised by ACDA and conducting circles.

In October 2003, at invitation, he led Tianjin Symphony Orchestra to participate in the 2nd Asian Symphonic Music Festival in Osaka (Japan), which met with great success.

In September 2004, he visited Hong Kong, and conducted Tianjin Symphony Orchestra and Hong Kong Association of Choral Society to perform The Yellow River Cantata with 300-member cast, which caused a sensation. This performance was rebroadcast by TV stations. The live performance contents were also made into CD and DVD.

In November 2006, he led Youth Girls Squad of Children & Women's Chorus Affiliated to China National Symphony Orchestra to participate in 2006 Busan International Choral Competition in Busan (South Korea), and won two gold awards in Group of Folk Songs and Group of Classical Music. In this event, he also won the only Award for Best Conducting.

China People's Armed Police Force Male Chorus & Orchestra consists of outstanding graduates from many professional music colleges across the country. China People's Armed Police Force Male Chorus is currently only professional male chorus, which premiered in Beijing in April 2007. Their singing has a distinctive military feature, which is magnificent, powerful and unswerving with delicacy and highly emotional tension. China People's Armed Police Force Male Orchestra is characterized by orderly staffing, delicate performance, rich experience, rigorous style and broad repertoire, which has been highly praised by experts and masses of audience. Since its inception, it has staged repeated gratitude-oriented performance to the grassroots troops, and it is popular with front-line military officers and soldiers. It successfully holds themed concerts such as I Stand Guard for Our Great Country, Soldier's Songs, The East Is Red, Song of Volga and Melody of Youth in the Great Hall of the People, Beijing Poly Theatre, Beijing Concert Hall, the National Palace Grand Theatre and other places. As the first performing arts group in the PLA, it has been invited for inaugurating-season concert in National Centre for the Performing Arts Concert Hall. China People's Armed Police Force Male Chorus wins No.1 of Choral Contest in "the 7th Chinese Music Golden Bell Award", Silver Award of the 1st Choral Competition of the 13th CCTV Young Singer TV Grand Prix and Golden Award of Choral Competition of the 14th CCTV Young Singer TV Grand Prix. It is not only enthusiastically hailed by hundreds of millions of televiewers, but also attracts the broad attention from news media. It is crowned as "No.1 Brand of Chinese Chorus."

Over the years, it accumulates more than 200 Chinese and foreign classical choral songs, adapts more than 30 choral songs, holds more than 50 special concerts in Beijing and other places, publishes two music discs entitled Glorious Voice I: Way to Paradise and Glorious Voice II: Listening to Mum Talking the Story about the Past, and wins "Gold Disc Award of Chinese Music". Its passionate vigorous singing and majestic flexible playing are high praised by the CPC and state leaders and the audiences in Beijing.
Yang Hongnian Children & Women's Chorus
In 1983, Yang Hongnian Children & Women's Chorus was founded by Yang Hongnian, a well-known music educator, conductor and professor of the Central Conservatory of Music. In the past two decades, this chorus accumulates nearly 1,000 Chinese foreign songs and stages nearly 400 performances. It leaves footprints in Europe, America and Asia, as well as Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, which causes a great sensation everywhere and has won eight international awards successively.
In 1987, Yang Hongnian Children & Women's Chorus was invited to participate in the 3rd International Children's Chorus Festival in Washington, which was conferred with the top-class appreciation certificate personally signed by former President Ronald Reagan. In 1989, Yang Hongnian Children & Women's Chorus participated in the Hungarian Kodaly Choral Works International Competition, and won evaluation of Extreme Excellence and certificate of honor. In 1993 and 2001, the chorus respectively went to Monaco and Moscow with Delegation of Beijing's Bid for Being Host Country of the Olympic Games. In 1996, the chorus won four awards in one fell swoop in the 44th Guido d'Arezzo International Polyphonic Choral Competition in Italy, which made Europe convinced with own unique charm and exquisite skills, thereby setting a new record in the history of this grand event. In 1999, the chorus went to Russia to present itself in Moscow Young Genius Music Festival Commemorating the 200th Anniversary of Pushkin's Birth, which won the only special award and got the first place of Golden Turning Fork Award in the 1st International Choral TV Contest. In February 2003, as the sole representative of Asia, the chorus was invited to stage demonstration performances in Annual Meeting of the US Choral Conductors Association. The chorus presented superb performance so that 9,000 renowned conductors in the US and around the world stood for ovation many times. The performances met with great success. In May 2004, the chorus was invited to Singapore and cooperated with Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Chorus and Latvia Chorus to perform Mahler’s Symphony No.8—Symphony of a Thousand, which caused a great sensation in Singapore. In February 2006, the chorus was invited to Malaysia, Singapore and other places for tour performances across the Southeast Asia. In November 2006, Youth Girls Squad of the chorus participated in “2006 Busan International Choral Competition” in Busan (South Korea), and won two gold awards in Group of Folk Songs and Group of Classical Music. In this event, the conductor Yang Li also won the only Award for Best Conducting.

The chorus always supports 'Project Hope' with spirit of Love and Dedication, which performs for the orphan village and music teachers of primary and secondary schools across the country. It is determined to play its due role in promoting choral art and popularizing national music education, and will spare no effort to contribute to promoting friendly ties and cultural exchanges between Chinese young people and people of various countries and regions.

In the past two decades, Professor Yang Hongnian cultivates thousands of children who love music. And the chorus won numerous honors for our motherland. They write splendid and brilliant chapters in the Chinese chorus history.
