If a conductor is granted the title of ‘Sir’ then this is generally an eloquent seal of approval. Sir Simon Rattle and Sir Antonio Pappano were previously guests at DE SINGEL in the series Symphonic Gold. Another figure that belongs in this list is Sir András Schiff. This audience favourite is already 69 years old, but at an age when most mortals are enjoying retirement, this maestro is still in full flow. In this concert, Schiff not only conducts the famous Staatskapelle from Dresden, but also takes his place behind the keyboard for Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27. With this milestone of classicism, Schiff catapults himself into the role of personal bridge between the baroque sound world of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 and the early Romanticism of Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4 - which the composer himself described as his ‘most cheerful and sunny work’. So a programme full of icons, both onstage and on the music stand, which heralds the coming of spring.

Als een dirigent de titel ‘Sir’ mag dragen, is dat meestal een veelzeggend keurmerk. Sir Simon Rattle en Sir Antonio Pappano waren eerder te gast in de reeks Symfonisch Goud van DE SINGEL. Wie ook in dit lijstje thuishoort is Sir András Schiff. 69 jaar is deze publiekslieveling ondertussen, maar waar de meeste stervelingen op die leeftijd van hun pensioen genieten, steekt deze maestro nog een tandje bij. Schiff staat in dit concert namelijk niet alleen op de bok voor de beroemde Staatskapelle uit Dresden, hij neemt ook zelf plaats achter het klavier voor het 27ste Pianoconcerto van Mozart. Met deze mijlpaal van het classicisme bombardeert Schiff zich tot verpersoonlijkte brug tussen de barokke klankwereld van Bachs Brandenburgs Concerto nr 5 en de vroege romantiek van Mendelssohns Vierde Symfonie - naar eigen zeggen zijn ‘meest blijmoedige en zonnige werk’. Een programma vol iconen dus, zowel op het podium als op de pupiter dat het ontluiken van de lente aankondigt.

Lorsqu'un chef d'orchestre porte le titre de « Sir », c'est le plus souvent un gage de qualité. Sir Simon Rattle et Sir Antonio Pappano, qui ont déjà été nos invités dans la série Or symphonique, y sont rejoints par Sir András Schiff. Ce chef très aimé du public a 69 ans, mais contrairement à tous ceux qui profitent de leur retraite à cet âge-là, le maestro n'hésite pas à faire coup double lors de ce concert. En effet, Schiff ne dirige pas seulement le Staatskapelle de Dresde, mais s'installe aussi au clavier pour interpréter le Concerto pour piano n° 27 de Mozart. En proposant cette œuvre clé du classicisme, Schiff fait le lien entre l'univers sonore baroque du Concerto Brandebourgeois n°5 de Bach et le romantisme naissant de la Symphonie n° 4 de Mendelssohn - que le compositeur appelait son « œuvre la plus joyeuse et radieuse ». Voici donc un programme composé de sommités, tant sur le plateau que sur les pupitres, qui annonce la proche éclosion du printemps.
