AN IDYLL BY PFEIJFFER SET TO MUSIC BY NEYRINCK
The most famous Dutch writer? Ilya Leonard Pfeijffer! Not only did he get noticed with large-scale novels such as Letters from  Genoa ,  La Superba  and  Grand Hotel Europa , but he also writes exquisite poetry. His latest collection of poems,  Idyllen , was published in 2015 and consists of no less than 50 narrative poems in rhyming alexandrines. In an era of Facebook and Twitter addiction, boat people and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Pfeijffer's  Idyllen  are primarily a farewell to the idyllic. As a consolation, however, the reader is left with Pfeijffer's unsurpassed language game.

Klarafestival and Passa Porta Festival asked Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer to write a new idyll, bearing in mind our world that has changed due to the pandemic. Based on this poem, titled  The old words of a time to come , Frederik Neyrinck composed a new work for soprano, narrator, two brass and two woodwinds.

Nederlands bekendste schrijver? Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer! Hij liet zich niet alleen opmerken met groot opgezette romans als Brieven uit Genua, La Superba en Grand Hotel Europa, maar schrijft ook exquisiete poëzie. Zijn laatste gedichtenbundel, Idyllen, verscheen in 2015 en bestaat uit maar liefst 50 verhalende gedichten in rijmende alexandrijnen. In een tijdperk van Facebook- en Twitterverslaving, bootvluchtelingen en het Israëlisch-Palestijnse conflict zijn Pfeijffers Idyllen vooral een afscheid van het idyllische. Als troost rest de lezer echter Pfeijffers onovertroffen taalspel.

Klarafestival en Passa Porta Festival vroegen aan Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer om, met onze door de pandemie veranderde leefwereld in het achterhoofd, een nieuwe idylle te schrijven. Op basis van dit gedicht, getiteld De oude woorden van een tijd die komen gaat, componeerde Frederik Neyrinck een nieuw werk voor sopraan, vertelstem, twee koper- en twee houtblazers.
