In Chicago in the roaring 20s, the ambitious Roxie Hart dreams of a career as dazzling as that of the famous show star Velma Kelly. The fact that Velma is in custody after a double murder does not detract from her fame - on the contrary. And so Roxie doesn't hesitate when her lover dumps her: One shot and that's it with Fred Casely. The prison in which Roxie comes turns out to be an unlawful room in which the head of the institution, Mama Morton, leads a dubious regiment. If you have money for mom, you get almost everything from mom. Roxie's idol Velma Kelly is one of the illustrious inmates. To avoid death by hanging, both compete for the favor of the windy star lawyer Billy Flynn and market their stories according to every trick in the book. The most private becomes public, human weaknesses become the fodder for sensational media, in which even the most absurd headline attracts the greatest attention. The initially bitter rivalry between the two women developed into a wonderful friendship over the course of history.

The unusual narrative structure of this vaudeville virtuously blurs the boundaries between reality and narration, between reality and appearance. Songs like "All That Jazz", "Cell Block Tango" or "If You're Good to Mama" make CHICAGO a real musical hit, also musically!

Unscrupulous, cynical and extremely sexy: one of the most successful Broadway musicals of all time can be seen for the first time at the Regensburg Theater.
