So fan tutte
Almost all of Mozart's operas are about the depths of love - but none as exclusively as Così fan tutte. Here everything seems simple and unshakable: Ferrando and Guglielmo love their fiancés Dorabella and Fiordiligi. The men take every bet that women will be loyal to them. Also with Don Alfonso, who is sure that he can demonstrate the opposite with an experiment. But what was planned as a harmless game develops into a cruel open-heart experiment that ultimately pulls the floor from under the feet of everyone involved: Because the characters have to recognize what they think they feel and what they actually feel , is in painful contradiction to one another. Mozart looks deep into the hearts of his characters, who are thrown to and fro by their feelings; With his music he knows better than anyone else how to tell of the confusing complexity of her soul. At the same time, Mozart is not a moralist - he does not judge his characters, and so it becomes a musical theater that presents the cryptic in a wonderfully light and thoroughly comedic way. However, abysses are by no means only found in women - so fan tutti.

The extremely dense and radically contemporary production by Kirill Serebrennikov was created in 2018 under very special conditions: The Russian director was under house arrest in Moscow and was unable to attend the rehearsals himself. That didn't harm the artistic expressiveness - the audience and the press were equally enthusiastic about his directorial work. In the revival, Ruzan Mantashyan and Anna Goryachova can be seen as Fiordiligi and Dorabella, who were already part of the premiere cast, as well as Rebeca Olvera as Despina. Mauro Peter sings Ferrando for the first time, his friend Guglielmo is Konstantin Shushakov. The Philharmonia Zurich will be conducted by the Englishman Christopher Molds, who is equally experienced in the Baroque and Classical periods.

Um die Abgründe der Liebe geht es in fast allen Opern Mozarts – doch in keiner so ausschliesslich wie in Così fan tutte. Hier scheint zunächst alles einfach und unerschütterlich: Ferrando und Guglielmo lieben ihre Verlobten Dorabella und Fiordiligi. Dass die Frauen ihnen treu sind, darauf gehen die Männer jede Wette ein. Auch mit Don Alfonso, der sicher ist, ihnen mit einem Experiment das Gegenteil vorführen zu können. Doch was als harmloses Spiel geplant war, entwickelt sich zum grausamen Experiment am offenen Herzen, das allen Beteiligten schliesslich den Boden unter den Füssen wegzieht: Denn die Figuren müssen erkennen, dass das, was sie glauben zu fühlen, und das, was sie tatsächlich empfinden, in schmerzhaftem Widerspruch zueinander steht. Mozart schaut seinen von ihren Gefühlen hin- und hergeworfenen Figuren tief ins Herz; wie kein anderer weiss er mit seiner Musik von der verwirrenden Vielschichtigkeit ihrer Seelenlagen zu erzählen. Zugleich ist Mozart jedoch kein Moralist – er verurteilt seine Figuren nicht, und so wird daraus ein Musiktheater, das Abgründiges auf wunderbar leichte und durchaus komödiantische Art und Weise vorführt. Abgründe tun sich hier allerdings keineswegs nur bei den Frauen auf – così fan tutti.

Die äusserst dichte und radikal zeitgenössische Inszenierung von Kirill Serebrennikov entstand 2018 unter sehr besonderen Bedingungen: Der russische Regisseur stand in Moskau unter Hausarrest und konnte bei den Proben selbst nicht anwesend sein. Der künstlerischen Aussagekraft hat das nicht geschadet – Publikum und Presse waren gleichermassen von seiner Regiearbeit begeistert. In der Wiederaufnahme sind als Fiordiligi und Dorabella Ruzan Mantashyan und Anna Goryachova zu erleben, die schon zur Premierenbesetzung gehörten, ebenso wie Rebeca Olvera als Despina. Mauro Peter singt erstmals den Ferrando, sein Freund Guglielmo ist Konstantin Shushakov. Die Philharmonia Zürich dirigiert der sowohl im Barock als auch in der Klassik gleichermassen erfahrene Engländer Christopher Moulds.
