DER FREISCHÜTZ – Carl Maria von Weber

A single test shot decides about a happy future for the hunter's boy Max. If he hits, he can marry his beloved Agathe. However, if he misses his target, he loses everything. It's easy for his rival Kaspar to get him involved in a pact with the devil - especially since he has a surefire solution ready: Max is allowed to cast seven free bullets in the Wolf's Gorge, which never miss their target ... Created under the impression of the liberation wars against the Napoleonic occupation, the opera strengthened the Germans' desire for cultural identity and has always been regarded as the "German national opera" par excellence.
