Alături de impresionantele abilități componistice manifestate cu precădere în genul liric, Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901) – „l’italianissimo” – s-a remarcat în timpul existenței sale prin excelență creativă și prin latura revoluționară, patriotică, fiind un reprezentant de seamă în lupta pentru unificarea Italiei. Totuși, dintre titlurile operelor care îi reflectă atitudinea militantă, Nabucco rezonează într-un mod aparte. După succesul relativ al primelor două opere reprezentate pe scena teatrului Scala din Milano și pierderea treptată a membrilor familiei sale în decurs de doar doi ani (1838-1840), Giuseppe Verdi renunțase la ideea de a mai compune. Contactul cu libretul lui Temistocle Solera, inspirat din Vechiul Testament și, implicit, versurile viitorului cor al sclavilor evrei – Va pensiero, sull’ali dorate – a avut un impact puternic asupra sa, determinându-l să se întoarcă la arta creatoare. Pe parcursul anului 1841, Verdi a compus opera Nabucodonosor, interpretată în premieră la Scala in Milano în anul următor, la data de 9 martie, marcând, fără îndoială, începutul unei cariere artistice strălucitoare și stabilind un record de popularitate păstrat până în zilele noastre.

Subiectul urmărește, pe parcursul celor patru acte, evoluția condiției poporului evreu – de la cea de oprimare la cea de libertate – dar și a atitudinii regelui Nabucodonosor – întâi de aroganță, apoi de umilință – în fața puterii divine. Viziunea regizorală a Inei Hudea respectă concepția dramaturgică originală, în timp ce scenografia Lilianei Moraru prezintă componenta spațială a acesteia într-un context modern, contemporan.

Along with his impressive compositional skills, especially in the lyrical genre, Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901) - "l'italianissimo" - stood out during his existence for his creative excellence and his revolutionary, patriotic side, being an important representative in the fight for unification of Italy. However, among the titles of the works that reflect his militant attitude, Nabucco resonates in a special way. After the relative success of the first two plays performed on the stage of the Scala Theater in Milan and the gradual loss of his family members in just two years (1838-1840), Giuseppe Verdi had given up the idea of ​​composing. Contact with the libretto of Themistocles Solera, inspired by the Old Testament and, implicitly, the lyrics of the future choir of Jewish slaves - Va pensiero, sull'ali dorate -  had a strong impact on him, causing him to return to creative art. During 1841, Verdi composed the opera Nebuchadnezzar , performed for the first time at La Scala in Milan the following year, on March 9, undoubtedly marking the beginning of a brilliant artistic career and setting a record of popularity preserved to this day.

The subject follows, during the four acts, the evolution of the condition of the Jewish people - from that of oppression to that of freedom - but also of the attitude of King Nebuchadnezzar - first of arrogance, then of humility - in the face of divine power. Ina Hudea's directorial vision respects the original dramaturgical conception, while Liliana Moraru's scenography presents her spatial component in a modern, contemporary context.
