Saint-Saëns ist in vielfacher Weise ein Klassizist. Louise Farrenc hingegen bezieht sich mit ihrer 3. Sinfonie retrospektiv auf die Wiener Klassik und verbindet strukturelle Klarheit mit
romantischer Ausdruckskraft. Den Auftakt macht Berlioz mit seiner Ouvertüre zu »Béatrice et Bénédict«, frei nach dem Shakespeare-Klassiker »Viel Lärm um nichts«.

romantic expressiveness. Berlioz will kick things off with his overture to »Béatrice et Bénédict«, loosely based on the Shakespearean classic »Much Ado About Nothing«.
