These Mozart considerations on life and death are at the origin of the interpretation that Raphaël Pichon and Romeo Castellucci give of the composer's emblematic and unfinished Requiem. An expression of man's existential anguish in the face of finitude, this mass for the dead confronts us with the ephemeral nature of nature and culture, of man as a species and as an individual. “We must understand and celebrate the end as the flip side of a party where the dance continues. This Missa pro defunctis then changes polarity and meaning. The theatrical vision of Castellucci, carried by the musical dramaturgy of Pichon – which embellishes the work of other religious pieces by Mozart – will transform this Requiem into the ultimate glorification of life.

Ces considérations de Mozart sur la vie et la mort sont à l’origine de l’interprétation que Raphaël Pichon et Romeo Castellucci donnent du Requiem emblématique et inachevé du compositeur. Expression de l’angoisse existentielle de l’homme face à la finitude, cette messe des morts nous confronte au caractère éphémère de la nature et de la culture, de l’homme en tant qu’espèce et en tant qu’individu. « Nous devons comprendre et célébrer la fin comme l’envers d’une fête où la danse se poursuit. Cette Missa pro defunctis change alors de polarité et de signification. » La vision théâtrale de Castellucci, portée par la dramaturgie musicale de Pichon – qui agrémente l’œuvre d’autres pièces religieuses de Mozart –, transformera ce Requiem en ultime glorification de la vie.
