operaphila.org - In this short video, stage director Chas Rader-Shieber discusses his Curtis Opera Theatre production, and how Strauss’s beautiful opera-within-an-opera explores the collision of high art (a composer staging his new opera) with low art (a troupe of commedia actors led by Ashley Milanese as Zerbinetta).

Chas’s production takes place in the private art gallery of the richest man in Vienna, where Ariadne, abandoned on a deserted island by her lover Theseus, is joined by a certain familiar group of castaways.
